Judge Hazel Jones Shares With NFISD Students
HOUSTON—In 2003, Hazel B. Jones left the D.A.’s office to become a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the United States Attorney’s Office Southern District of Texas, where she handled cases that fell under the federal government’s “Project Safe Neighborhoods” initiative. After two years, with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Jones went into private practice as a criminal defense attorney.

When she declared her candidacy for the Harris County 338th Criminal District Court in 2008, Jones credited the foundation laid during her years as a student in North Forest ISD as a contributing factor to her success. Earlier this year, Jones was praised in a Texas Lawyer article for being one of several new judges in Harris County who was moving through dockets quickly and making solid rulings.

Democratic Candidate Hazel Jones
Democratic Candidate Hazel Jones filed to be on the ballot on Thursday, December 13, 2007 with over 1200 signatures of registered voters in Harris County

" I want to thank everyone who participated in the collection of over 1200 signatures of Harris County registered voters. I understand that whether your participation was minimal or extensive, it was a sacrifice you did not have to make. For that I am grateful. I would also like to thank those who have assisted in other ways too numerous to name. Again, to you I am grateful.

I would ask for your continued support now more than ever. Although, I am unopposed in the March 2008 Democratic Primary Election, I will have an opponent in the general election in November 2008. So, let us continue to move forward in our campaign to bring about meaningful change to our Harris County Courts."
